Santa Claus is Making a Comeback For This Season
While some retailers may be creating controversy by taking Christmas out of the holidays, Planetsanta.com reports that not only is Santa Claus alive and well, but Santa Claus Costume sales indicate more people are playing Santa Claus than ever this year.
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) December 9, 2005 -- The holiday season 2005 has had its share of controversial marketing mess-ups. While some retailers have chosen to take Santa Claus and Christmas out of the holidays, Planetsanta.com can attest to the fact that Christmas and Santa Claus are very much alive and well.
Richard Williamson, President of Pierre's Costumes and Planetsanta.com based in Philadelphia said "It is refreshing to hear our customers say -- Merry Christmas -- We enjoy the warmth and joy of the season, and it make us and our customers very happy."
Williamson has been in the Santa Suit business for 20 plus years and his company has been in the Santa Claus costume business for over 60 years. "Seriously, it gives me a really great feeling to offer tips and advise to a guy playing Santa Claus for the first time" continued Williamson. "We will give them tips like having a helper get the name of the child along with a fact like their pet or teachers name as well as a toy that the parents have already got for the child. Mentioning these fact to the child will make them really believe and will absolutely make their jaws drop!"
This year Planetsanta.com has seen a huge upturn in first-time Santa Clauses. Many of the Santa Suits are being sold to newcomers. "Customers are telling us that they want to do charity work, do something nice for people in their community, or simply to have fun while making Christmas nice for children” Said Williamson.
Williamson continued " I always warn them that if they do a good job, to be prepared to get asked to play Santa Claus for all their friends. Most of them know this and welcome this offer." Most of the guys that play Santa Claus end up getting hooked. They love the hobby, and take it more seriously than a job.
Many people are pulling out all the stops for Santa Suits. Customers have been buying professional suits along with bells, bags, beards, and boots. The typical customer is getting all the extras with the Santa suit instead of getting a low-end partial costume. “We start selling Santa Suits in September and continue through the end of December,” continued Williamson. This year interest is definitely starting earlier. Many suits were starting to sell in the late summer months.
This trend seems to indicate an increase in Christmas spirit, and in a softening of people’s attitudes toward the commercialization of Christmas. People, especially retirees, are trying to give some cheer back to those around them.
Santa Claus and his red suit will always be popular. If current Santa Suit sales are an indicator, he shows no sign of slowing down.
