The ON/AVN Support Group International, Inc. announces its part in helping to sponsor a research project with the Hospital for Special Surgery, NY, NY.

Goal to raise $170,000 to fund project, counting on the public's help and awareness to Osteonecrosis/Avascular Necrosis. First and foremost aim is to educate the world about this silent killer of bones that is known as ON/AVN. The organization is by ON/AVN patients for ON/AVN patients.Offers practical and emotional support to a membership which spans the globe.

ON/AVN stands for Osteonecrosis/Avascular necrosis, a very serious and painful bone disease in which the bones die, and has the capability of rendering a patient crippled for life. It is a condition that appears to be on the up rise today, and for which there is no known cure. The Association is a non profit organization; the goals are to educate people about ON/AVN, to be supportive of members, and to help find the answers they are seeking.

The ON/AVN SGIA has been accepted by the Hospital for Special Surgery, Manhattan, NY, to co-sponsor a special research project that will explore some of the causes of ON/AVN, and explore ways in which new bone re-growth techniques may be applied to victims of the disease. The goal is to raise $170.000 in start-up costs and fees to get this project off the ground.
