“I read the script and was completely into it. I loved the character (Laura Daugherty) She’s so kind of flawed, cool. I loved her because she’s imperfect in really extraordinary circumstances. It looked like a drama to me using science fiction as a platform. This is a person who doesn’t necessarily have this sort of nurture thing. She has priorities to choose from. She’s passionate about what she does and also loves her child very much. You are contstantly seeing her struggle with that.

The Miles storyline will intersect with Laura’s storyline. I love that whole weird ESP connection that Miles has with the creature. There’s more to come in that storyline.

You will find out the origin of the species within the next three episodes. It is wonderfully complicated and exactly what you didn’t expect. The great thing about this show is to expect the unexpected, because every time I think I know what’s going on. I’m wrong. They really do a wonderful job, the Pates (creators) to find strange answers that actually are feasible.”

She even called her former Boston Legal co-star, William Shatner (She enacts the conversation)

”Look I’m delving into the sci-fi world. Do you have any advice ? Is there anything I should know ? Other than the fans are extremely loyal.
Shatner: They’re very loyal
Lake: I know.
Shatner: Just make a lot of faces.
Lake: That’s it.
Shatner: Just make a lot of faces of awe and wonder.
Lake: Awe and wonder ?
Shatner: Awe and wonderment.
Lake: Awe and wonderment. Ok . Thank You. check that. Got it. That was his big advice to me.”
