Former Prosecutor Releases Statement on Expected Execution of Stanley 'Tookie' Williams

Former War Crimes Prosecutor & Ambassador at Large for War Crimes Issues, Pierre Prosper, releases statement regarding the execution of Stanley "Tookie" Williams. A former prosecutor in Los Angeles County, Prosper offers support for the jury and the Los Angeles District Attorney.

Los Angeles (PRWEB) December 9, 2005 -- From the office of the Prosper for Attorney General Campaign, the following statement from former United States Ambassador at Large for War Crimes Issues, Pierre-Richard Prosper, was released on Thursday, December 8, 2005.

"Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is holding clemency review for the co-founder of the infamous Crips street gang and convicted murderer Stanley "Tookie" Williams. As a former prosecutor in the Hard Core Gang division of the Los Angeles District Attorney's office, who has worked in our criminal justice system, prosecuted numerous gang-related murders and multiple murder cases, and has seen first-hand the horror that these vicious gangs inflict, I recommend the Governor follow and uphold the decisions of the jury, judge, the various courts of appeals, and the United States Supreme Court's decision that this case did not merit additional review.

"While I do share concerns that at times there are cases where deficiencies in our system raise questions as to whether to apply the ultimate penalty, this is not one of them. The public record of this case clearly demonstrates the heinous special circumstances surrounding the murders and Mr. Williams' responsibility for them.

"This appeal for clemency comes after more than twenty years of appeals, exhaustive judicial review, and public scrutiny. In evaluating this case we must not forget the four victims who were shot, by a shot gun that records show was owned by Mr. Williams, their families, and the underlying brutal nature of the acts for which Mr. Williams has yet to show remorse."
