Chicago’s NBC5.com Wins Regional Emmy Award for Podcasts

Cited for “Outstanding Achievement for Media Interactivity,” award recognizes first major-market TV station to launch podcasts.

CHICAGO, IL & MINNEAPOLIS, MN (PRWEB) December 11, 2005 -- NBC5.com, the Web site for Chicago’s WMAQ TV, and Internet Broadcasting, an online news innovator, today announce that NBC5.com has won the Chicago/Midwest Emmy Award for “Outstanding Achievement for Media Interactivity.” The award cites NBC5.com’s Podcast endeavor, the first such by a major-market TV station in the nation.

NBC5.com, part of Internet Broadcasting’s national platform of TV station Web sites, produces Podcasts with TV station content as well as Podcast exclusives. These Podcasts give viewers the ability to listen to continually updated content when it’s convenient for them by downloading from NBC5.com to their iPod or MP3 player.

"When we first started Podcasting in April, a lot of people had doubts about whether it fit into the framework of what a TV Web site should do. This award certainly adds some legitimacy to our efforts and also lends credence to our mission of embracing new technology in order to communicate effectively in this new electronic age," said Marcus Riley, NBC5.com's managing editor.

NBC5.com produces at least 25 Podcasts a week. Content includes morning and midday news, health watch, technology trends, celebrity interviews and sports. While other stations now have Podcasts, NBC5.com stands out because of its emphasis on original content.

“NBC5.com has really been a trailblazer when it comes to TV stations and Podcasting. With quality content that affects people’s daily lives, viewers now have the added flexibility of getting this content whenever they want, wherever they are,” said Nancy Cassutt, Internet Broadcasting’s vice president of content.

This is the first-ever Emmy Award for NBC5.com and 13th this year for the station. For more information, go to www.NBC5.com/Podcast
