Mortar Wins International Davey Award for Budda Amps Campaign

A new campaign for Budda Amplification, developed by integrated marketing firm Mortar, won a 2005 International Davey Award. This edgy media campaign included posters and the relaunch of Budda.com.

San Francisco, Calif. (PRWEB) December 12, 2005 -- Last month, a new campaign for Budda Amplification, developed by integrated marketing firm Mortar, won a 2005 International Davey Award. The Davey Awards, organized by the International Academy of the Visual Arts (IAVA), recognizes leading creative talent from the world’s finest smaller agencies.

Mortar created “The Guys in the Band,” an edgy media campaign targeting serious musicians and aspiring rockers that included posters distributed to music retailers and the relaunch of Budda.com. Photographs of Budda’s trademark black-and-purple sound systems were paired with shots of guitarists in action and tag lines such as “If you feel the urge to smash something, we humbly suggest the drum kit” and “Rich, fat, powerful. Remind you of anyone at the record label?”

“We are thrilled to receive this award in recognition of our work for Budda,” said Mark Williams of Mortar. “When they approached us to recreate their look, Budda had already generated quite a following within the music industry – the quality of their sound systems was making an impact, and people had started to listen. We wanted to make sure that their image was just as impressive as their sound.”

The premier manufacturer of high-end amplifiers for electric guitars, Budda began as a small two-man shop in Northern California in 1995. In less than a decade, its status among musicians had quickly soared to the top, but its visual identity needed a tune-up.

“We approached Mortar to create a new look that paralleled the word-of-mouth recognition that we were getting from within the music industry,” said Scot Sier, president of Budda Amplification. “Simply put, they scored a pitch perfect campaign that rocks.”
