Managing a Career in the Arts: Blog Series

A Creative Capital workshop yields strategies for the artist to thrive.

(PRWEB) December 14, 2005 -- A series of tips and strategies and techniques for succeeding in a career in writing or any of the arts is appearing now on Peggy Payne?s Boldness Blog, www.peggypayne.blogspot.com.

The information comes from a one-day seminar sponsored by Creative Capital in conjunction with other agencies across the country. This gathering in Charlotte, NC, was co-sponsored by the NC Arts Council.

The gathering drew writers, sculptors, painters, a jeweler, a composer and others, some with decades of experience in selling art.

The purpose of Creative Capital and of the one-day workshop is to teach artists of all sorts, particularly the most experimental ones, that it is possible to run a viable business as an artist. Classes during the day covered such topics as financing, getting visibility, sharpening presentation of the art work, and managing a business.

Peggy Payne, a novelist, journalist, and consultant to other writers, is writing a series of blog posts on what she learned in this workshop. Payne is the author of the novels Sister India, a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, and Revelation, among other books. She has written for national magazines ranging from Ms. to Cosmopolitan and for most of the major American newspapers.

Several parts of this series have been posted with more to come. A good one to start with is An Elevator Pitch to Sell Your Art.

Peggy Payne's Boldness Blog is dedicated to building creative courage, her own and others.
