Boca Raton, Florida (PRWEB) December 15, 2005
Interactive Speech Solutions, LLC has recently released the Cool Conversations Cool C™ Quiz. The Cool C Quiz (CCQ) is a new “talking computer” software release from the three year old company. CCQ is a virtual tutor, designed for Windows® based computers, that provides an interactive quiz learning experience. Gail Melograno, Teacher and Reading Specialist at Silver Ridge Elementary stated “The CCQ program helps students increase their knowledge of required curriculum, as well as to review and practice what they already know. The questions are delivered in an entertaining, student friendly way, and the content ranges from basic knowledge to more challenging concepts. Students of all abilities will benefit from this highly motivating tutorial program.” A free trial is available from CNET's download.com.
The program uses the Star Trek model of a computer that talks to you like an actual personality. As soon as the program is launched, the computer will begin talking, guiding the user to select from available quiz content. The computer then asks questions and can provide spoken clues like a TV game show host. The text for each question and clue is shown allowing CCQ to help students build their reading and pronunciation skills. A bilingual version of CCQ is even available that allows users to click on a Spanish flag icon and to hear a translation of questions and clues in Spanish. After the user selects one of the four or five available answers for each question, the computer will speak up again to let the student know how they did. A Quiz mode, study mode, quiz timer and scoreboard are all available, giving CCQ some useful video game functionality. The basic program comes with a series of Mixed Trivia Quizzes totaling nearly 800 questions. Quiz sets are currently available for Elementary Grades 1 through 5 with content built along curriculum guidelines in the subject areas of Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science.
CCQ effectively supports the learning and retention of information. Dr. Michael Krop, former Chairman and twenty-four year Miami-Dade (Florida) School Board Member stated "This software (CCQ) is assisting educators by helping students more quickly master new knowledge through the combination of visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning. It provides a great example of how effective technology can be in the teaching process." Programs like the "No Child Left Behind" initiative have made support of the education process more important than ever for teachers and school administrators. Technology offers unique opportunities for additional one-on-one learning time for a student that does not demand additional time to be spent on the part of teachers. CCQ is a "virtual tutor" that never tires and consistently supports the education process in a friendly and encouraging style.
The Cool C Quiz provides a great way for people to learn new information. The CCQ Content Editor is one of several features that contribute to the value of this knowledge building system. Full editing and development tools are provided to allow users, parents and teachers to make their own quiz sets quickly and easily. One user has recently developed a helicopter pilot training package using the software. The combination of verbal interaction, clue files and images combine to make CCQ an ideal application for all types of training.
For teachers and parents, great additional value is provided through the Administrator functions that come with CCQ. The previously mentioned Content Editor is just one of the tools available. By entering the Administrator control panel, an unlimited number of unique user names and passwords can be set up. Once these user names and passwords are set up, the CCQ Reports module allows a teacher or parent to generate a report based on selected criteria allowing an assessment of each user’s knowledge level in all available content areas. Ms. Edna White, a 3rd Grade Teacher stated, “I think it’s great because teachers get to see exactly where their students are. I think CCQ will be a valuable tool for students to use at home and in school.” The score board feature is also available to the student and allows users to set up their own quiz competitions. "CCQ gives teachers and students prompt indication of their mastery of the subject matter; whether or not they have learned and mastered the concepts, thereby providing for the identification of weak areas and needs for further study. Students can therefore monitor their progress instantaneously. CCQ provides students with opportunities to learn independently and develop their critical thinking skills" said Ms. Maria Isabel Sumilang a Middle School Science Teacher and on-line Tutor.
Not satisfied with a PC only application, Interactive Speech Solutions has taken the CCQ system one step further. CCQ can be loaded from a PC onto a PDA, making it an “anywhere” learning tool. Because of the numerous portable gaming devices on the market, most children are familiar and comfortable with small handheld computers. CCQ provides the perfect learning and study tool for kids on the go. This can also mean more one-on-one interaction with computers in the classroom where three or more PDA’s can be purchased for the price of one PC. CCQ received a very favorable response when Microsoft previewed the PDA version at this year’s National Education Computing Conference (NECC) in Philadelphia as part of their Mobility Solutions for Education. CCQ for pocket computers will be optimized for Microsoft’s new Mobile 5.0 operating system.
CCQ product designers, John Brodie and Pedro McGregor have expressed great satisfaction with the responses to their Cool C Quiz product. Microsoft’s showcasing of the PDA product at the NECC show, a 5 Star rating at CNET’s download.com and numerous endorsements from education professionals “has given us a great deal of personal satisfaction. It’s great to do something that can really help people in an area as important as education. It is great that CCQ is making learning easier and more fun” said Mr. Brodie.
This December marks the official release of the English only and English / Spanish versions of the CCQ program. Individual and classroom licenses are available. Working with teachers and education professionals around the country, the company has completed initial curriculum-based quiz sets for 1st through 5th grades.
