As Allentown firefighters know from fighting last Fridays fire, candle fires have been on the rise for years and are at the highest during the holiday season. Candle Smart, Inc. a company in Allentown, Pennsylvania has created a smart candleholder to reduce this danger.
After nearly having a tragic fire in her own home, inventor Deb Platts, wanted to prevent this from happening to other people. Platts and her partner Ed Kelly developed the Candle Minder, a candleholder that sounds an alarm reminding candle users to extinguish the flame.
“After doing some research, I found that fires have increasingly resulted from burning candles left unattended and forgotten,” Platts said.
Candle fires have nearly tripled in the past ten years, and firefighters have shifted their focus to candle safety education. The National Fire Protection Association urged the public this year during Fire Prevention Week to become more aware of this growing problem.
Candle Minder helps prevent users from forgetting a burning candle by using a built in timer and loud alarm that sounds when the selected time has expired.
Candle Minder hopes to reduce the number of candle related fires across the globe, offering their products to customers around the world.
