In response to the growing demand for Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) and Digital Multimedia Broadcast (DMB) test systems, RadioScape, one of the market leaders in Professional DAB Broadcast Systems, has created a complete one-box, DAB/DMB multiplexer solution. This provides a low cost, entry-level system for receiver design, validation and test, and, due to its compact and portable nature, can also be used to set up temporary broadcasts for field trials of DAB and DMB.

When manufacturing DAB receivers, it is a vital part of the quality control process to test each receiver to ensure that it works properly. For this, a standardised signal is needed that can be directly provided by the Research and Test System (RTS) in real time by multiplexing together a set of audio and data input streams. Alternatively, the Ensemble Transport Interface (ETI) bit stream output from the system can be recorded and replayed on RadioScape’s ETI Replay Unit to simulate a complete multiplex. Thus, one RTS can provide the same or different ETI outputs for any number of Replay Units providing a cost-effective solution.
Research & Test System
This ultra compact unit is contained in a single standard 4U platform and has an ultra-quiet cooling system to allow it to be located in a lab or manufacturing site. There is provision for future expansion if required to add further features. These include MUSICAM Encoder, Enhanced Packet Multiplexer, PAD Multiplexer, MOT Server, IP Gateway and DMB Gateway. This is the first system to offer options such as Enhanced Packet Mode data and the simultaneous transmission of multiple DMB streams in just one box. It can also be specified with RadioScape’s unique Simulated MUSICAM array, which allows the transmission of up to eight further pre-recorded audio streams that support the seamless reconfiguration of bit-rates and audio modes.
ETI Replay Unit
The RadioScape ETI Replay Unit enables the playback of a complete DAB or DMB ETI bit stream to give a broadcast quality signal via an RF modulator. The unique ETI replay software accepts ETI LI, NI or NA encoded binary files as inputs. The output is then either NI or NA ETI streams, seamlessly transcoding from one format to another where necessary.
The unit is supplied with a library of pre-recorded ETI files that can be accessed in a number of different ways to suit the application such as endless loop or single replay modes. Specifically designed for use in a production environment, it comes complete with a comprehensive control API.
