Less than 2 weeks ago, 2entwine llc unveiled Gtalkr, a Macromedia Flash web-based instant messaging application -- the first of its kind. Today Gtalkr adds two new notable features: localization and RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds. The first use of the localized language support will be for Chinese speakers who are already a large percentage of Gtalkr's user base.
As a web-based instant messaging application, Gtalkr provides anyone with a web-browser access to Google Talk's instant messaging network. Gtalkr is already as feature-rich as a desktop client. Gtalkr provides additional functionality such as integrated searching of conversations and allows 3rd party Flash extensions to leverage the Gtalkr and Google Talk instant messaging infrastructure. Gtalkr as a web-based application is also notable in that it provides seamless integration into Windows desktops after the installation of the Gtalkr Notifier. With all of these features combined, Gtalkr is ground breaking as a web-based application, and a step ahead of other instant messaging solutions.
Since the release of Gtalkr, a large number of Chinese individuals have taken to using it, indicating the need for a proper web-based instant messaging solution. With the translation of the majority of the text from English to Chinese in the Flash client, more Chinese individuals will be able to make use of Gtalkr and the Google Talk network. Japanese, Spanish, and French versions of Gtalkr should also be available soon.
The RSS integration into Gtalkr complements the instant messaging functionality already available. RSS and instant messaging at their core are about rapid information flow, and the Gtalkr interface is designed to present both RSS and IM side-by-side.
