A Stroke of Genius: Postcard Company Wins MarCom Creative Awards

Marketing Division of Inc 500 company shows business savvy but creativity won them the Gold in the MarCom creative Awards.

On the heels of receiving notification that PostcardMania made it on the 2005 Inc 500 list, it received more good news that its marketing division had been awarded the elite Gold Award in the MarCom Creative Awards. The MarCom Creative Awards is an international awards competition that recognizes outstanding achievement by marketing and communication practitioners.

The Gold Award is presented to those entries judged to exceed the high standards of the industry. Out of the 4613 entries from throughout the United and States and several foreign countries, only about 16% of the entries receive this award.

PostcardMania, a direct mail marketing Postcard Company, decided to show its creative side by sending in one of their creative works for a client in the title search industry for mortgage lenders and title companies. The contest required that the applicant demonstrate how they could create an aesthetic work (postcard campaign) that would also get a result for the client.

“We had to get their (the client’s prospects) attention; the industry was failing, the business was boring and we needed to ensure that the recipient of those cards could identify with our client right away” said Joe Niewierski, PostcardMania’s VP Marketing, “Frankly, it was not an easy task.”

The stroke of genius was a series of postcards, all drawn cartoon-style that depicted famous comical commercials that were in vogue – only the punch line for each was the name of their client’s business. The result was remarkable for the client. After a 16 month crash in the business, their client went from $80,000 in gross billing per month to over $170,000 per month in just 1.5 years.

“You can have a gorgeous postcard,” Joy Gendusa, CEO and Founder of PostcardMania commented, “but if it doesn’t pull and get results, marketing dollars are totally wasted. We’re thrilled when our customers win – it’s what keeps us excited about our work!”
