Major League Baseball and LBi Software Engineering announce the successful completion of the Rule 5 Draft using eBIS, the electronic Baseball Information System.

The software developed by LBi allows our Clubs the ability to select players and provide for a seamless draft event. LBi’s creative approach and dynamic application enhanced the experience of the audience by following the draft through two visual screens, displaying current and prior selections.

Utilizing eBIS, MLB conducted the 2005 Rule 5 Draft in Dallas on December 8th. The Rule 5 Draft component of eBIS allows the Clubs and the Office of the Commissioner to view eligible players and set the draft order for each phase of the draft (Major League, AAA, AA). The real-time Draft module allows users to submit picks, view results, display information on the most recent selection including prior season’s statistics, access reports and generate assignment transactions following the draft. Picks were announced by Clubs and immediately entered into eBIS by the Commissioner’s Office representatives, allowing Clubs and Media attending the draft to view the selections as they were approved.

According to Roy Krasik, Senior Director of Major League Operations for MLB, “The software developed by LBi allows our Clubs the ability to select players and provide for a seamless draft event. LBi’s creative approach and dynamic application enhanced the experience of the audience by following the draft through two visual screens, displaying current and prior selections.”
