Los Angeles (PRWEB) December 22, 2005 -- For every child who dreams of soaring through the skies, and the child in all of us who is moved by the magic of flight, “One Six Right” is a thrilling documentary film that celebrates the unsung hero of aviation — the local airport — and its significance to the future of aviation and our communities. Now available on DVD at (www.onesixright.com), the film is a must for pilots and aviation buffs of all ages.
“One Six Right,” shot in High Definition (HD) video, takes viewers to the skies with spectacular aerial sequences featuring new and classic airplanes including the P-51 Mustang, DC-3, Pitts S-2B, Piper J-3 Cub, Cirrus VK30 and a 1930’s Fleet biplane. The film tells its romantic story through the accounts of pilots, air traffic controllers, aviation pioneers, historians and flight enthusiasts, including well-known faces such as Hollywood director Sydney Pollack, actor Lorenzo Lamas, Los Angeles TV news anchors Paul Moyer and Hal Fishman and many others.
“One Six Right” tells the fascinating story of the Van Nuys Airport (VNY). Located in the heart of Los Angeles’s San Fernando Valley, VNY is the world's busiest General Aviation airport. The airport has a rich history – Amelia Earhart broke a world speed record over its runways, Marilyn Monroe was discovered while working in its hangars, and scenes from the classic film “Casablanca” were filmed on its grounds. Almost every type of aircraft has graced VNY’s runways, from the primitive biplanes of the 1920s to the state-of-the-art jet aircraft of today.
The film also dispels common misconceptions about General Aviation airports, which are often criticized for noise pollution and are viewed as exclusive playgrounds for the rich. In fact, General Aviation airports are the foundation of the entire aviation industry and contribute significantly to their local communities. VNY operations contribute more than $1 billion each year to the Southern California economy. It provides a base for fire, police, air ambulance, search and rescue and news media aircraft that serve the local community. Perhaps most importantly, it helps ensure the future of aviation by inspiring new generations to become pilots.
“One Six Right” is named for the famous main runway at VNY, which is labeled 16R, and represents the words a pilot hears when returning “home” to Van Nuys. The 73-minute film is produced and directed by Brian J. Terwilliger, who spent more than five years on this cinematic love story about flying.
“This film goes beyond the aviation community, inspiring people of all ages and interests to experience the beauty and passion of flying while telling the story of one of the most exciting airports in the world,” says Terwilliger, a passionate pilot who learned to fly at Van Nuys Airport.
The aerial sequences were filmed by aerial director and camera pilot Kevin LaRosa. The original orchestral score was composed by Nathan Wang. The film features over 20 visual effects shots and is mixed in Dolby 5.1 surround sound. The film is rated G and is suitable for all ages.
