Senator Specter Sidelines the Elderly, the Expectant, and the Enfeebled as he Defends Terrill Owens
Senator Specter stalls legislation that would end nation's physcian's shortage while defending NFL athlete.
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) December 26, 2005 -- Terrill Owens, a resident of New Jersey, is receiving far more support from Senator Specter than Pennsylvanian patients who have been victimized by Pennsylvania’s physician shortage.
Arlen Specter has come out in support of the Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver, accusing the NFL of treating him unfairly. Specter said he might refer the matter to the antitrust subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee, of which he is Chairman.
Yet, Senator Specter refuses to schedule hearings on legislation sitting in the Judiciary Committee that would end Pennsylvania’s physician shortage. The Senator is keenly aware that deaths have occurred due to the shortage, OB/GYN care is inaccessible to expectant mothers and elderly women in some parts of the state, and that numerous maternity wards and trauma centers have been forced to close.
The Politically Active Physicians Association has recently asked the Senator to meet with physicians and patients to discuss the crisis. His staff members said his health would not allow such a visit. Yet, the Senator has enough strength to tackle a press conference in defense of NFL’s most controversial player.
It is time Senator Specter quit sidelining Pennsylvania’s patients and give those harmed by the physician shortage the hearings they deserve.
