Homeschoolers Complete 10 State Road Trip, Preparing for the Remaining 40 States
A homeschool family from Orlando, Florida set off September 28, 2005 and began their American Adventure traveling across the United States in a 37 foot motorhome. After completing 10 states so far, they have returned to Orlando for the Christmas holidays to be with family and friends before finishing the journey.
Orlando, FL (PRWEB) December 23, 2005 -- The American Adventure began early in 2005 when Mark and Cricket Gregorich decided to take advantage of the real estate market in Orlando and follow a dream. The Gregorich’s sold their 2000 square foot 3/2 pool home in northwest Orlando just months after completing the renovations they started over a year earlier. Then they purchased a 36-foot National Sea Breeze LX motorhome with only about 400 square feet. When asked about their tighter living quarters, they look at it from a different angle.
“We used to take vacations in a conversion van,” says Mark, “Now we travel in an RV three times the size with full kitchen and bath facilities.”
What they’ve given up in their pool home, the Gregorich’s have gained much more. If they want oceanfront property, they camp along the coast. When they want lakefront property, they camp on a lake. When they want to see mountains or any other view, they simply find another location that offers what they’re in the mood for. The Gregorich’s have had awesome views from their new “backyard.”
Mark and Cricket also have two sons, ages 8 and 11, that are getting a first hand look at geography and American history. This is their third year of homeschooling. The first two were using the typical fashion of textbooks. However, this years American Adventure is truly a dynamic and exciting education for the boys. The curriculum comes from Alpha-Omega’s Switched-On Schoolhouse computer based interactive software. But with each new state they visit, the Gregorich’s also make a stop by each state capital along with many historical sites. They’ve studied the early colonization at Jamestown and Williamsburg. Learning about the American Revolution while in Boston and Philadelphia.
“Back when I was in school,” says Cricket, “I had to memorize Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. But when I read it again to my sons, right there on the battlefield in Gettysburg, it was a powerful speech and meant a lot more to me.”
So far, the Gregorich family has traveled in their RV to ten states: Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and back to Florida. After the Christmas and News Years holidays, they will begin to head out west along the southern states. Their goal is to visit to all 49 states by 2007. When asked about Hawaii, Mark replied, “We haven’t decided yet. We may just have to fly over to make it an even 50.”
