Creation, the teen pop band on a heartfelt mission, held a benefit concert at BB King’s in New York City on December 6 and exceeded their goal by raising over $55,000, enough money to build a school in Mali, Africa and send 10 inner-city kids along to Africa to assist in building the school.
Legendary musicians Clarence Clemons (who performed on Creation’s debut CD “World Without Windows”) and Nile Rodgers, founder of the We Are Family Foundation (and co-writer of the song, “We Are Family” from which the foundation takes it’s name), were among the 400 plus crowd who came to show their support for Creation. Nancy Hunt, President of the We Are Family Foundation stated, “It was a memorable and touching evening for these six 12-13 year old musicians who are truly using their talents to make a difference in the world.”
The evening included a performance by Creation playing songs from their new CD, “World Without Windows,” and Clarence Clemons joining the group on stage to perform “Only For You.” An additional highlight of the night was a letter (read by Nile Rodgers) from former President Bill Clinton commending Creation for their efforts in reaching out to other youngsters through their music.
All proceeds from the concert and sales from “World Without Windows” benefit the We Are Family Foundation. We Are Family Foundation partners with Building With Books to build “We Are Family” schools in Mali, Africa.
We Are Family Foundation celebrates our common humanity and the vision of a global family by creating and supporting programs that inspire and educate individuals of all ages about diversity, understanding, respect and multiculturalism; and to support those who are victims of intolerance. Creation was formed two years ago by six dedicated fifth graders coming together to play their music. These extraordinary children decided it was time to use their talents to make a difference.
Their hope is to encourage kids around the world to work any way they know how to spread the same message: “We all can dance, we all can sing, we all wanna run away and sprout wings; though there are so many different things, we are all the same,” lyrics from “We Are All The Same,” one of the songs on their new CD “World Without Windows.”
The CD features a guest appearance by E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons on the song, “Only for You.” All proceeds from “World Without Windows” goes to the We Are Family Foundation to help fund a Creation School in Africa and send 10 inner city U.S. students to Africa to aid in the building process.
