Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) December 25, 2005 -- Tammy Solt has always had a dream of owning her own business and she did not want to look back on her life, years from now, with regret that she never tried. Recently, Solt found her niche in selling colored camouflage apparel to sports fans in their favorite team colors. Solt thought of it as a unique and fun way of showing team spirit.
Solt started her working career as a United States Marine, wearing green camouflage on a daily basis. After serving in the Marines for seven years, Solt was tired of camouflage. What did she take away from this experience? "The single most important lesson I learned while serving in the Marine Corps was the importance of setting goals and taking the initiative to achieve them."
After Solt was discharged from the Marines, life got in the way of her desire for starting a business. As years passed and her children became teenagers, the desire to have her own business began to burn again. Then one day at a tailgate party, the notion of combining a business with her love of sports materialized.
“I have Ohio State University season football tickets and love to tailgate,” Solt added. “I bought a set of red camouflage shorts from a fellow tailgater and constantly had people asking me where I bought them. I continued to search for a business idea that I could be passionate about. One day as I was getting ready to go to the game, it finally hit me. I began to see the ‘camouflage’ as the business opportunity.”
"Who would have known? After wearing camouflage for seven years in the Marines, I now sell it!" Today, camouflage apparel is popular with people or all ages. Solt wanted to combine the popularity of camouflage with another hobby of hers—sports.
Over the next few months, Solt conducted research on the internet and met with a local SCORE small business counselor. After researching her competitors, she obtained a business license and registered her company name of Team Camo Gear. Her last requirements were completed shortly thereafter—obtaining a manufacturer and having the web site www.teamcamogear.com built.
“I love college football,” added Solt. “I currently carry five camouflage color patterns that match nicely with many professional, collegiate, and high school team colors. My ultimate goal is to have colored camouflage clothing that matches the colors of any college, professional or high school sports team. Fans can combine our colorful camouflage patterns with their favorite team logo wear. Future plans also include fundraising for schools and adding an embroidery option for high school and booster club orders.”
Solt’s advice to anyone seeking a new path: Get out of your comfort zone and take a few chances. You only live once.
