South Shore Elder Services Plays 'Santa' to Seniors
South Shore Elder Services, a private, non-profit agency in Braintree that provides seniors and caregivers in the South Shore area with valuable resources and services, recently teamed up with Home Instead Senior Care in the "Be a Santa to a Senior" program
Braintree, Hanover, Norwell, Weymouth, MA (PRWEB) December 26, 2005 -- South Shore Elder Services, a private, non-profit agency in Braintree that provides seniors and caregivers in the South Shore area with valuable resources and services, recently teamed up with Home Instead Senior Care of Norwell, Braintree Council on Aging, Weymouth Elder Affairs, ABCD Foster Grandparents Program and the Hanover Mall in providing presents to more than 350 seniors this holiday season through the “Be a Santa to a Senior” community service program.
South Shore Elder Services’ and other non-profit elder service groups identified seniors within the community who otherwise would not receive a gift this year. The seniors’ names were then provided to Home Instead Senior Care, who led the “Be a Santa to a Senior” program. From November 12th to December 12th, a Christmas tree featuring the first names of seniors and their respective gift requests stood at the Hanover Mall. Holiday shoppers were able to retrieve an ornament from the tree, purchase a senior’s requested gift and return the gift with ornament name tag to the store. Home Instead Senior Care volunteers collected the gifts and participating agencies, including South Shore Elder Services, wrapped and distributed the gifts to the seniors.
“Thank you to all the shoppers who so generously purchased the gifts that will brighten the lives of many elders this holiday season. We’re very pleased to have been able to help in the ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ effort,” said Ed Flynn, Executive Director of South Shore Elder Services.
