Polka Tots

Aimee Michaelis admits that when it comes to musical ability she only plays the radio. However that has not stopped the Medical Administrative Assistant instructor at Pima Medical Institute, 1701 W. 72nd Ave, Suite 130 in Denver from raising a musical family and rolling out a barrel of fun for polka enthusiasts in the Denver, Golden and Evans area.

(PRWEB) December 25, 2005 -- Aimee Michaelis admits that when it comes to musical ability she only plays the radio.

Aimee’s husband, Kevin has been playing professionally in polka bands since he was 10 years old and has built up quite a reputation in the area belting out vocals, playing the dulcimer, an ancient, harp-like instrument or beating out a rhythm on the drums. When Aimee was pregnant with the couple’s first son, Cameron, now 4 and later with 3-year-old twins, Trevor and Logan, 3, she put headphones on her belly and played classical music. She also attended many of her husband’s gigs when she wasn’t working nights as an instructor at PMI.

Now all three of Aimee’s son, as well as her husband, are out playing polka tunes throughout the state. All three boys have learned through observation. Each takes turns sitting on their father’s lap while he plays. Once, when Kevin went on break, Cameron snuck on stage and began tapping out a tune to the canned music that started to turn heads. Everyone was shocked to see it was the youngster who could keep a perfect beat. Soon his younger brothers followed suit. Now they have their own miniature dulcimer and drums that they play. All three are perfect mimics and have developed a real talent for music and dance. Sometimes the twins dance the polka together, imitating the perfect dance form of their grandparents, with Trevor assuming the lead dancer role (his Papa) and Logan as the follow (his Nana).

Polka enthusiasts throughout the area drive for miles to see Kevin and the boys perform in three or four different bands. However, Aimee isn’t totally left out. Her skills as a MAA are a perfect fit for running the band’s business and booking appointments. Three upcoming gigs are scheduled for 3 – 7 p.m.: Jan. 8th and Feb. 26th at The Denver Kickers Sports Club, 16776 W. 50th Ave. in Golden and at The Ebony Event Center in Evans tba.
