Houston, TX (PRWEB) December 29, 2005
When the 2006 NBA All Star weekend begins in Houston, one of the hottest tickets in town won’t have anything to do with the game. Behind the Bench, The National Basketball Wives Association will host a spectacular event that will bring together NBA stars (past and present) and other celebrities for a night of high energy and excitement to benefit The Children’s Assessment Center (CAC).
Behind the Bench’s “Touching a Life” NBA All Star Gala will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2006 at the InterContinental Hotel, located at 2222 West Loop South. This event kicks off the NBA All Star Weekend every year, and is considered one of the must-attend events for celebrities. Behind the Bench - the nation’s only professional players’ wives association – has raised over $1 million for charities across the United States over the past 13 years. The association, whose members are married to retired and active professional basketball players, selected The Children’s Assessment Center as a beneficiary of its philanthropic work due to the extensive services it provides children in the Houston metropolitan area.
“The Children’s Assessment Center provides a professional, compassionate and coordinated approach to the treatment of sexually abused children and their families and serves as an advocate for all children in the community,” said Charrisse Jackson-Jordan, president of Behind the Bench. “CAC’s mission is a great fit with our organization’s mission of helping women and children.”
The Children's Assessment Center provides a safe haven to sexually abused children and their families—a place where they can receive the kind of care and treatment they so richly deserve. The center employs an extraordinarily effective, multi-disciplinary team
approach in the prevention, assessment, investigation, referral for prosecution and treatment of child sexual abuse. The CAC’s goal is to promote the complete healing of child victims of sexual abuse and their families.
The CAC is an accredited member of the National Children's Alliance, part of a national movement to create child-friendly intervention systems for sexually abused children and a member of the Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas The CAC is also one of the largest advocacy centers of its kind in the nation.
The “Touching a Life” Gala will include dinner, silent auction, fashion show and musical entertainment. It is one of only a handful of events that the public will have an opportunity to meet NBA Stars and other celebrities in a social setting.
