Upstage Radio is an online radio station run by Upstage Magazine that plays rock and roll from independent and national artists. Many of the artists played on Upstage Radio get limited airplay elsewhere.
"We started Upstage Radio to give indie artists a chance to have their music heard," said Gary Wien, station manager. "Since the station launched in early 2005, we have had a tremendous reponse from indie artists across the country. There already are many great online stations that play New Jersey artists, so we chose to focus on indie artists as a whole. Radio airplay is so difficult to get these days that every indie artist needs all the help they can get."
Users are able to choose their favorites from a list of 100 records that were chosen by the station. Every artist on the list has been played throughout 2005 on Upstage Radio. The list includes some very well known acts as well as some that are only known in New Jersey.
"It was more difficult than we thought it would be to come up with the final 100 records of 2005," added Wien. "The station had about 150 records or more from the past year and paring down the list wasn't easy. We actually left some records off of the list that have shown up on some top 10 lists for the year. The past year was just a pretty good year for music!"
Upstage Radio is an interactive radio station. Listeners can talk with other listeners in the online chat room; they can rate each song from 0-4 stars; they can get biographical information about the artists; and they can purchase the records online.
The station broadcasts at 56kps in MP3PRO format. It can be accessed anywhere in the world with such tuner programs as RealPlayer, Itunes, Winamp, or Windows Media. The station's website is at http://www.upstageradio.com
