Interview with 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' Screenwriter John August
August, known to some as the blogging screenwriter, is interviewed by DV Guru about getting into screenwriting and learning more about how to write more effectively.
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) December 31, 2005 -- 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' Screenwriter John August shares his insights about how budding writers can get into the industry via an interview at DVGuru.com.
August, also known for 'Corpse Bride' and both 'Charlie's Angels' films, writes on his blog, JohnAugust.com, about the industry at large. When Ajit Anthony interviewed August, they talked in-depth about how to be in Hollywood, and stay yourself.
"I don't ever want to think of myself as a brand, like Coke or Pepsi," August said. "I'd like to think that people who are interested in the writing behind movies could identify me with my work, and the blog helps that to some degree."
August also outlines a method for starting out in the industry, and getting your work out. He encourages budding writers to do more than just write, they need to be flexible.
"I'd make a short film. With todays HD and DV cameras, there's no reason not to learn the 'making' part of filmmaking." And while August says it'd be to a screenwriter's advantage to make a short film, he says they need to make more than just one.
"And I'd do the same all over again. It's not that any one step in the process will make you successful, but I think you have to be pursuing a lot of different avenues at once."
