Cricket, Not Just a Sport (Tsunami Fundraiser Report)

(PRWEB) February 2, 2005 -- Tennisball Cricket Association, the largest cricket organization in Bay Area, organized Cricket for a Cause", a fundraiser event for the Tsunami Victims. The event was organized on Jan 15, 2005. Nearly 100 participants and equal spectators from different parts of community took part in the event. Tennisball Cricket Association donated all the proceeds from this tournament along with a matching contribution to UNICEF to aid its Tsunami relief efforts.

For a devastation of this magnitude, one cant help but to take notice and do what they can to lend a hand! I am really happy to be able to contribute and put on this fundraiser for noble cause" Says Srinivas Haridas, Director at TCA for Tsunami Event.

At TCA, we are moved by this disaster", Says Ajay Pal Singh, President of TCA. "Srinivas did an excellent job of organizing it and I am profoundly thankful to our cricket community support for this noble cause"

"Even though I'm not expert in playing Cricket, it was exciting to participate." said Suman D'Souza, the only women participant in the event "It was good to see people at their best in competitiveness and generosity; we played for a great cause."

Cricket is more than a Sport", says Parag Kulkarni, Secretary of TCA. At TCA we are deeply involved with the community and especially Youth. Tsunami has shaken the worlds of hundreds of children. We wanted to reach out and help the children affected by this disaster" said Kulkarni, who initiated the event.

"The response to the Tsunami Relief effort was overwhelming. We raised $1581 for the aid of victims. The TCA foundation committee and board of directors matched additional $1500 to a total collection of $3081, which was donated to Tsunami Victims via UNICEF (Ref. ID: 13691369, 13703397)" say TCA Treasurer and CFO Jaldhi Valia.
