(PRWEB) February 8, 2005 -- For the public at large, the opportunity to experience avant-garde, worldwide trends in art outside international arenas such as the Venice Biennale, Art Basel or Art Forum Berlin is a rare occurrence. Addressing this topic, the John Natsoulas Center for the Arts proudly presents the first Western Biennale of Art exhibition, February 2- March 27, 2005.

A survey of contemporary movements in the international art scene and developments among our own California artists, the exhibition focuses on art of the future and is based on the publication Art Tomorrow, by Edward Lucie-Smith. The John Natsoulas Center for the Arts is dedicated to educating and informing the public about social issues and aesthetic values affecting the art scene within our own region and around the world. Beginning this year and continuing biannually, the Western Biennale of Art proposes to introduce international flavors and art trends to the community.

This group exhibition will feature many well-known international, national and regional artists showing recent artwork in a variety of mediums. Photographs, paintings, installations, digital works, video and sculpture will be presented over four floors of exhibition space. Comprised of some of the richest, most controversial art being produced today, the Western Biennale of Art brings together cutting-edge artists from around the world, affording our community the chance to view this exciting work outside the international arena.

In conjunction with the two-month exhibition, a one-day seminar on contemporary art will take place March 5th; special guests include Edward Lucie-Smith, Judy Chicago, Afshan Ketabchi, Genia Chef, Jiivanii RedMarks, Chris Daubert and others. The opening reception, featuring live music, book signings and will take place March 5, 7-10pm.

Edward Lucie-Smith, curator of the Western Biennale of Art: Art Tomorrow, is a widely published art critic and freelance writer. His extensive knowledge of contemporary art and his authority on sexuality in art makes him one of the most acclaimed art historians worldwide. Lucie-Smith will hold a discussion with Judy Chicago during the March 5th seminar.
