Target Googles Top Ten to Sell Online—Oneupweb, Search Engine Optimization & Marketing Firm, Study Shows

Oneupweb Research Shows Clear Traffic & Sales Benefit to Being Positioned Well in Search Engine Results. Oneupweb, a leading national search engine optimization (SEO) and marketing (SEM) firm released a new study demonstrating a clear benefit to being listed on the first three pages of Google results, and describes even greater sales benefits to being listed on Googles first page. The SEO industry has been telling clients for years that very few searchers review more than the first three pages of search engine results. This study confirms that higher positions sell better. Oneupweb reviewed data collected by its proprietary conversion analytics technology, ROI Trax®, to determine average increases in traffic and conversion rates occurring when sites move higher in Google search results. The study, titled Target Googles Top Ten to Sell Online," is available free at Oneupweb.com

Suttons Bay, MI (PRWEB) February 18, 2005 -- Oneupweb, a leading national search engine optimization (SEO) and marketing (SEM) firm released a new study demonstrating a clear benefit to being listed on the first three pages of Google results, and describes even greater sales benefits to being listed on Googles first page.

There are no surprises here. That a site does better on Googles first three pages is conventional wisdom in our industry," says Lisa Wehr, president of Oneupweb. Oneupwebs study supports that rule of thumb with data."

The data shows that the first month a site gets listed on Googles second or third page, a company can expect traffic generated from that keyword search to increase five times, from a previous average of nearly seven unique visitors per keyword to nearly 36. The second month after a site appears in Google, average traffic per keyword is more than 65 unique visitors.

The first month a site is listed on the first page of Googles results, expect traffic to triple from its rate the previous month. On average, before they appear on the first page, sites start with traffic of nearly 14 visitors per key word and ramp up to more than 46 the month afterwards, and more than 86 the second month after.

Furthermore, the study shows that conversion rates are affected by a sites position on Google. For the month before a site appears on Googles second or third pages, sites didnt record any sales. Once included on either of these two pages, sites improve their sales. Sales increase for sites entering Googles top ten, as well. The first month a site appears on Googles first page, conversion rates go up on average an incremental 42 percent; the second month, conversion rates nearly double.

A site appearing on Googles first page not only has more unique visitors, a greater percentage of those people become customers," says Wehr. The data confirms the search optimization industrys intuition and provides skeptics or those unfamiliar with search optimization a demonstration of the potential benefits of optimization."

Oneupweb is confident this data is a conservative view of SEO opportunity—many Oneupweb campaigns have greater success rates. The company performed this study hypothesizing that being in the top 10 results is better than being in the top 30—and being below the top 30 is akin to being invisible. Clearly this study establishes that trend.

Coupled with Oneupweb case studies, this study helps a potential client—and the whole industry—understand the degree of opportunity available with natural optimization," concludes Wehr.
