Dramatic New Advancements in Diabetes Treatment and Technologies

New diabetes research has led to new technologies and testing procedures that have improved life for diabetes patients

Boca Raton, FL (Moniker/PRWEB ) February 18, 2005 -- A series of dramatic new advancements in diabetes testing and new diabetes treatments have greatly improved life for those living with diabetes. The new advancements in diabetes address diabetic eye problems, the relationship between arthritis and diabetes, pain free testing, and overall ease of use for diabetic testing.

Our customers are thrilled about the new advancements in diabetes testing." said Robert Weinroth, President of American Diabetes Services, a Boca Raton Florida based company that specializes in delivering diabetes testing equipment for little or no cost to diabetics with medicare or private insurance coverage. The new diabetes technologies reduce the pain of testing and make it easier for diabetics to test. The new diabetes technologies can accommodate those with diabetes and arthritis and diabetic eye problems."

Some of the new advancements in diabetes testing equipment and technologies include:

– vision and diabetes: many diabetes patients have blurred vision from type 2 diabetes. With blurred vision, patients have trouble finding the target on the strip for blood level tests. The Comfort Curve strip by Accu-Chek has a notch where the blood needs to be placed, this allows the patient to easily find the place on the strip to put the blood.

– arthritis and diabetes: Patients with arthritis and diabetes have trouble handling tiny testing strips, and have trouble getting them out of the tubes and into the machines. This problem has been addressed by two machines on the market. One is the Accu-Chek Compact and the other is the Ascensia Dex/Breeze. The Compact has preloaded 17 strips onto a drum. The patient opens the bottom of the meter, pops in the canister with the pre-loaded strips, presses a button, and out pops a strip, ready to use.

– ease of use: Every new batch of strips react to blood samples in a slightly different way. To address this problem, every batch of test strips has a unique code number that is programmed into the meter every time a new batch of strips is used. New advancements in diabetes meters include the Compact and the new Ascensia Contour. These meters automatically recode the meter as new batch of strips is loaded.

– size of meter: Another of the new advancements in diabetes technologies is the size of meters. The Freestyle Flash, manufactured by Roche, is currently the smallest meter on the market. This meter is very portable and is convenient for the active lifestyle of the baby boomer age group.

– smart meters: The One Touch UltraSmart meter is a meter and a log book in one. This smart meter can track of the things that affect your diabetes including: food intake, exercise, medication, blood glucose readings and weight all with push-button ease, The UltraSmart is a total health management system.

– alternate site testing: Finger tips are the easiest site for drawing a sample for blood glucose testing but also the most painful. Pain free testing is the rallying cry for high frequency testers. The One Touch Ultra and Roches Freestyle offer the tester the opportunity to draw a blood sample from an alternate test site. Now the fingers need not be the sole site for drawing enough blood to obtain a valid blood glucose reading.

Research has shown that as the new advancements in diabetes make testing easier and less painful, diabetics will test their blood sugar levels more frequently. Frequent testing and monitoring of blood sugar levels is the number one way to manage diabetes" said Lorne Yaffe, Vice President of Marketing for American Diabetes Services.
