SEI Expands Juice Box 802.3af Power-Over-Ethernet Product Line

Frederick, MD (PRWEB) February 23, 2005 -- System Engineering International, (SEI), announces additional models to its ‘Juice Box line of midspan PoE products; the ‘MX Power unit and ‘Backup Juice (Integrated UPS option). The 802.3af compliant Juice Box MX simplifies installations and provides optional integrated battery backup. MX models come in 6, 12 and 24-port versions and can be configured with a Web/SNMP interface.
With the extension of the Ethernet network to include VoIP phones and Wireless Access Points, the additional power requirements placed on your AC UPS system may reduce battery backup time significantly. This reduction means that the UPS systems no longer provide the backup time that the software platform requires to accomplish a graceful shutdown.
The low cost solution to counteract this loss of system backup is to provide battery backup specifically designed for the devices providing PoE. By integrating batteries with the PoE midspan injector, the ‘Backup Juice optional Integrated UPS eliminates the additional power load on the existing AC UPS and the resulting decrease in battery backup time. By treating the PoE function of the network as a self-sustaining entity of the existing network, you eliminate the need to re-evaluate and resize your infrastructure UPS with each addition of power seeking terminals.
The ‘Juice Box MX is designed to work with the ‘Backup Juice Integrated UPS such that during a loss of utility power, the ‘MX ‘provides instantaneous power from the backup battery. This ensures an uninterrupted, high quality power source for your PoE devices without degrading the LANs shutdown period. The Juice Box MX can accommodate up to two Backup Juice battery units. Battery unit capacity ranges from 8 amp hours up to 90 amp hours.
A key feature of the Juice Box MX is the ability to prioritize ports in backup mode. During a utility power outage only those ports enabled for operation during battery backup mode will be provided with power. This allows critical circuits to operate longer on the available battery capacity.
The ‘Backup Juice Integrated UPS incorporates SEI smart-battery technology that includes an Automated Battery Test and LED indicators of Battery Charge Status and Battery Test Status. Battery replacement is user friendly.
