Controversial Hip Hop Author Adisa Banjoko to Speak at Harvard University Feb. 28th 2005

Respected Speaker and Author of "Lyrical Swords Vol. 1" to talk about "Islam, Hip Hop and Black America"

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) February 22, 2005 -- YinSumi Press is proud to announce that Adisa Banjoko, author of "Lyrical Swords Vol. 1: Hip Hop and Politics in the Mix" will be speaking at Harvard University. The Harvard Islamic Society has invited Mr. Banjoko to participate in a forum entitled ""Islam Hip Hop & Black America", February 28th 2005.

Internationally known Hip Hop Journalist, Adisa Banjoko, has appeared in The Source, The Harvard Hip Hop Archive, XXL, Vibe, Grappling, Yoga Journal, Daveyd.com, Rapstation.com, Pacific News Service, onthemat.com and Allhiphop.com.

Under the pen name "The Bishop of Hip Hop," Adisa has educated and entertained many with his work on Hip Hop culture, Eastern philosophy, martial arts, Islamic culture, and African American social issues. He has shared the stage with political and cultural icons such as San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, Hip Hop pioneer Afrika Bambataa, rap legend Chuck D, and pioneer b-boy Crazy Legs. "The Bishop" has also kept the internet aflame with his audioblog "Holla at a Scholar" at www.lyricalswords.blogspot.com.

Mr. Banjoko's polemical book, "Lyrical Swords" has been making incredible noise on the streets and in the classrooms since its release on November 2nd 2004. It's a soul moving collection of essays and interviews about the political, social and spiritual trends within the Hip Hop sub-culture. "Lyrical Swords" features interviews with Hip Hop icons like Russell Simmons, Everlast, Paris, Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest and many others. The San Francisco Chronicle said that "Lyrical Swords" was a collection of "enlightening essays that combine Eastern wisdom with Western analysis; a good mixture of scholarship and street wisdom." Bruce George, Co-Founder of Def Poetry Jam stated that "Adisa's writing is beyond buzz-worthy. He's a true Word Engineer."

The man, the Eastbay Express was tempted to call a "prototype rap intellectual" was quite humbled by the call to Harvard. "It is a very special honor to be invited by the Harvard Islamic Society to speak on an issue so very dear to my heart" said Mr. Banjoko. "I appreciate how sincere they are in looking closely at the integration of these beautifully unique sub-cultures."

Advisor to the Harvard Islamic Society Taha Abdul-Basser will begin the discussion promptly at 5PM. Taha, PhD. Candidate in Islamic studies, brings a unique and passionate insight to the topic at hand. The event will be held in the Yen Ching Auditorium located at 2 Divinity Ave., Cambridge Massachusetts from 5-7 PM on Monday, February 28, 2005.
