Bella Donna Films To Make New York Debut At Eighth Annual Reel Sisters Of The Diaspora Film Festival

Three short films produced by Bella Donna Films, a Latina-owned film and production company, have been accepted into Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival, which will run March 11th through March 13th in Brooklyn, NY.

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) February 25, 2005 -- Three short films produced by Bella Donna Films -– Untitled," Its a Pleasure," and Jayson"-- will premier in New York at the Eighth Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival in Brooklyn. The festival will run from Friday, March 11th to Sunday, March 13th at the Spike Lee Screening Room at the Long Island University Brooklyn campus.

Iris Almaraz, filmmaker and co-founder of Bella Donna Films, an East Los Angeles, CA-based film and production company, says, Although we just launched our company last year, our work has received a really nice reception from festivals around the globe. We are especially excited to have been selected to participate in the Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival because of their commitment to showcasing cinematic work created by women of color."

Film short, Untitled," is the almost true story" of an overweight, underappreciated waitress (Corina Mora), who seeks her revenge on society by calling unsuspecting actors to reject them for parts that dont really exist...and in the process finds love.

In Jayson," we see life through the eyes of a child. Jaysons parents are so lost in their continual struggle that they have lost sight of the damage it is inflicting upon him. The film begins on an optimistic tone with Jayson (Jared Lebaron) enjoying an intimate moment with his mother, Emma (Rina Fernandez). The mood is quickly broken to reflect the tension that exists in the house. From there, we meet Tony (Ryan Quintana), the husband and father, who comes home from work to play out yet another terrible incident with his wife. The resulting violence becomes the final straw that finally motivates Emma to take the action to save herself and her son.

Its a Pleasure" is a short about Ann (Corina Mora), who moves in with a dragon lady" of a roommate that cares more about grooming herself than welcoming Ann. Ann responds by getting to know and love herself from the outside in. No matter what the circumstances -- a self-absorbed roommate or a jerk of a landlord -- Ann learns about the greatest love of all!

The festival will kick-off on March 11th with a dessert reception featuring the Reel Sisters of the Diaspora filmmakers at the campus' Salena Art Gallery.
