iPodlounge Announces Editorial Policy on Dangerous, Cloned, and Illicit iPod Accessories
Leading independent iPod information resource fights consumer exploitation and deception, bars advertising and coverage for associated vendors
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) February 2, 2005 -- iPodlounge (www.ipodlounge.com), the world's leading independent resource of information about Apple Computer's iPod portable digital music players, today announced dramatic new editorial policies regarding dangerous, cloned, and illicit iPod accessories. "As the iPod economy has grown over the last three years, many great new accessories and merchants have entered the marketplace," explained Jeremy Horwitz, Editor-in-Chief of iPodlounge, "but there's also more junk and consumer exploitation out there than ever before. Our first priority is to keep our readers and their iPods safe from harm."
Updated numerous times daily, iPodlounge hosts hundreds of the most objective, comprehensive reviews of iPod accessories ever written, including brand-new releases and products dating back to the 2001 "first-generation" iPod. The site's wildly popular Buyers' Guide includes a letter grade-style "report card" to the reviews, giving readers an easy, two-page summary of the best and worst products of the iPod economy.
The new policies address three major areas of concern to iPodlounge and its readers, who numbered approximately 2,000,000 in December, 2004 alone. First, iPodlounge discusses potentially dangerous iPod charging accessories that can cause damage to iPods, themselves, and possibly even their users. Under the new policy, iPodlounge now automatically issues "D-" and "F" grades to defective and dangerous accessories, respectively, conspicuously identifies products that use properly tested components, and reserves the right to deny editorial coverage and advertising space to affected accessories if necessary.
Second, iPodlounge addresses the cloning of certain well-known iPod accessories by knock-off manufacturers, creating a policy whereby "cloned" products are clearly defined and barred from both advertising and editorial coverage. In recent months, knock-off vendors have used online auction services and web sites to sell products under the same names as the authentic goods, disappointing consumers who receive inferior-grade versions of what they believed they had ordered. Vendors of the authentic goods have asked iPodlounge for its support in fighting counterfeiters, and iPodlounge has gladly obliged.
Third, iPodlounge exposes disreputable and/or potentially illegal conduct by certain vendors of iPod accessories, denying editorial coverage and advertising space to companies that exploit or deceive their customers, as well as those that market products of questionable legality to an audience that includes young iPod owners. "Our readers range in age from 7 to 77," said Dennis Lloyd, Publisher of iPodlounge, "and we don't want to steer them towards potentially bad experiences. Even if we have to modestly limit our editorial coverage and advertising revenues, we believe that these policies are the responsible and appropriate response to the trust our readers have placed in us since our founding."
