Tsunami Ribbon/Bracelets Keeps Awareness Alive $1 Donation Aids Tsunami Relief
The Tsunami Ribbon & Bracelet Project is a nationwide project to benefit various charities providing support for the relief in Southeast Asia. It is also meant to provide ongoing awareness that the challenges the tsunami created have only begun. The goal of the project is to distribute 20 million ribbons or bracelets for display across the country.
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) February 14, 2005 -- The tsunami that hit Southeast Asia on December 26th is now known to have taken about 300,000 lives. Those who survived have lost family members, friends, homes, even everything and everyone they love. The recovery and rebuilding of this area will take years, even decades to complete- and this requires a lot of money.
Americans have been extremely generous, both on a national and individual level. Many have even traveled to the area themselves to help. For those of us at home, there are many ways we can show we care and give the aid that is so desperately needed. The Tsunami Ribbon & Bracelet Project is a nationwide project to benefit various charities providing support for the relief in Southeast Asia. It is also meant to provide ongoing awareness that the challenges the tsunami created have only begun.
"We want people to lend their own support by purchasing Tsunami Relief Ribbons or Bracelets," says Jon Nelson, founder of the Tsunami Relief Ribbon & Bracelet Project, "and even do their own fund raisers for other charities who are helping in the relief effort."
The ribbon is blue in color and reads, "I Support Tsunami Relief." The ribbon is a static cling sticker that can be placed on the inside of any window, then easily removed. The ribbon is 4.25 inches by 8.00 inches in size. The bracelets are vinyl and blue in color with a metal snap. They say in black letters, "Tsunami Relief."
The goal of the project is to distribute 20 million ribbons or
bracelets for display across the country. "If we can accomplish this," says Nelson, "we will raise at least $10 million for charities providing support. It will also give us the daily reminder we need to continue to do our part."
The Tsunami Relief Ribbons and Bracelets are available at a cost of $.50 each. Those wishing to conduct their own fund raisers can purchase them for 50 cents a piece, then sell them for $1.00-2.00 and donate the difference to their chosen charity. Bracelets are available in boxes of 500 for only $250, plus $20 shipping and handling.
"I should tell you we have a west coast non profit that I need to try and get 1,000,000 bracelets covered for in the next 2 weeks and that would require $500,000," Nelson says. "They would be able to raise a min $1,000,000 with these bracelets. I also have another non profit that is wanting 5 million ribbons donated that will take $2.5 million, and they can raise at least another $5.0 million."
The program website, TsunamiRibbon.com, has listed several charitable organizations to choose from, to help interested groups and organizations provide ongoing awareness.
"We would encourage those who can't afford the cost upfront work with area businesses or organizations to purchase and sell the ribbons or bracelets," says Nelson. "You can also purchase ribbons and bracelets and donate them directly to charities to sell."
