Athens, GA Beer Festival Celebrates 10th Anniversary on April 16, 2005

The Classic City Brew Fest is one of the Southeast's largest and longest-running beer festivals. The 10th anniversary Classic City Brew Fest will be held at the Classic Center in downtown Athens, GA Saturday, April 16, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Attendees will enjoy an open tasting of almost 200 of the worlds greatest beers (including many new strong, gourmet beers) and enjoy live German song and dance from Atlanta Sangerkreis. Proceeds benefit AIDS Athens - the primary HIV/AIDS service organization in a ten county area of northeast Georgia.

(PRWEB) March 8, 2005 -- Terrapin Beer Company, Five Points Bottle Shop, Rock 103.7 FM, Flagpole Magazine, Creative Loafing, Center Stage Catering and Brewtopia Events LLC present the tenth anniversary CLASSIC CITY BREW FEST to benefit AIDS Athens and other Athens charities. The Classic City Brew Fest is the Southeasts largest and longest running indoor beer festival and will attract beer aficionados from around the Southeast who will enjoy sampling almost 200 of the worlds greatest beers on Saturday April 16, 2005 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Held in the grand exhibit hall of Athens Classic Center, the festival will allow attendees to experience over 30,000 square feet of beer. Brewers will be on hand to discuss beer styles with the public, and over sixty brewing companies from twenty different countries will be represented.

Proceeds will benefit AIDS Athens - the primary HIV/AIDS service organization in a ten county area of northeast Georgia. ACNG is a non-profit, community-based agency committed to meeting the needs of northeast Georgians affected by HIV/AIDS through direct client services, advocacy, education, free HIV testing and outreach programs. A portion of each ticket sale will benefit AIDS Athens' education and outreach efforts.

Last years Classic City Brew Fest drew an energetic crowd of beer enthusiasts who came to taste, learn about, and appreciate the handcrafted ales and lagers of the world. This year's ticket sales will again be limited to 2,500 to make the event uncrowded and enjoyable for everyone. Individuals are advised to purchase tickets early. Attendees at the 2005 festival can also enjoy food, non-alcoholic drinks and live German song and dance from the popular Atlanta Sangerkreis group. Great beer-related door prizes will be presented throughout the day. People will roam from booth to booth, tasting samples of various beers and ciders - all for one ticket price! Brew Fest organizers stress the importance of attendees savoring the flavors of premium beers responsibly, and information on responsible drinking will be available.

Brew Fest will give attendees the opportunity to experience different styles of beer from around the world and the opportunity to appreciate different characteristics of each. "2004 was the year that we were finally able to change Georgia's laws to allow the sale of gourmet, strong beers from around the world." says Brew Fest founder and director Owen Ogletree. "These new beers exhibit rich flavors and complexity, and we will be proud to showcase many of these powerful brews at our 2005 Classic City Brew Fest."

Like wine, todays handcrafted beers can be paired deliciously with gourmet foods. There are more styles of beer in the world than wine. Beer has its own history, depth of character, and charm. Some Belgian beers taste just as complex and robust as many wines, and there are food and beer pairings that work better than wine. Open yourself up to the incredible world of beer styles from around the world — you will be impressed and amazed!" says Ogletree. The 10th anniversary Brew Fest will give attendees many opportunities to experience the excitement associated with tasting the worlds finest beers —all in one great location: the Classic City!

Classic City Brew Fest is $21.50 in advance and $25 (plus tax) at the door.
