PrivateLessons.com Releases Songs & Dances" Piano Solo CD by Ghenady Meirson

Rachmaninoffs transcriptions of The Brooklet, Lilacs, Daisies, Hopak, Minuet (LArlesienne Suite) and music by Chopin, Mendelssohn, Granados, and Moscow-based Vladimir Ryabov

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) March 1, 2005 -- PrivateLessons.com today released a debut CD by pianist Ghenady Meirson. The album entitled Songs & Dances lists for $16.95 and is available for sale online at PrivateLessons.com (http://www.PrivateLessons.com) Artists Place and by phone at 1-888-387-8273.

Since this is my first effort as a recording artist and producer, half of the music on the CD turned out to be first and only takes," said Meirson. An immediate comment from my editor George Blood, who generally accepts nothing less than two takes, ‘thats because you are a performer. Looking back, I did treat the recording process just like a concert performance -- recording in a concert hall, playing a Steinway grand and feeling like a nervous wreck."

Songs & Dances album contains 15 short pieces, exploring songs and dances by various romantic and 20th century composers including Chopin, Mendelssohn, Granados, Rachmaninoff and Ryabov. I wanted to produce a CD that would appeal to people of diverse levels of music appreciation and tastes," adds Meirson. At a recent IAJE Jazz Educators Conference, as a matter of informal market test, I played the CD for jazz musicians who were instantly attracted to Rachmaninoffs harmonies in Daisies and Lilacs." While professional musicians may appreciate the difficulty of some of the pieces, the CD is easy to listen to, offering haunting melodies and musical variety.

About the Artist
Educator, author, composer, pianist and music industry entrepreneur, Ghenady Meirson began studying piano at an early age in his native Odessa, Ukraine. He graduated from the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome and The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. At Curtis, he majored in piano studying with Seymour Lipkin and Mieczyslaw Horszowski, and in accompanying studying with Dr. Vladimir Sokoloff.

In 1982, Meirson wrote a singer's handbook entitled "Do Sing in Russian" and began to specialize in Russian vocal repertoire. Since then, he prepared many artists for opera, oratorio, recitals and recordings, and helped such organizations as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Singers and Mendelssohn Club Chorus. Ghenady Meirson is on the faculty at both The Academy of Vocal Arts and The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.
