'Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow' -- New Children's Book Features Interracial Family First in a Series by Los Angeles Author

In a new children's book for ages 4-8, a little girl tries to give her daddy a new hairdo on Saturdays when her mommy is at the beauty salon. Problem is, her daddy is "follically challenged" -- i.e., bald. How she does it makes up the charming story about this interracial family. Full color illustrations throughout.

When you go to the beauty shop and see all those lovely ladies getting their hair washed, cut, dyed, crimped, braided, curled, and straightened, did you ever wonder what their families were doing? In "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow," a new, illustrated book for children ages 4-8, when a little girls mommy goes to the beauty salon, the girl finds clever ways to give her daddy a new hairdo. Problem is, hes follically challenged" – that is, hes bald. How she gives him a new ‘do every week when Mommy is at the salon is story that will delight young and old.

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow was written by Lisa Dunn-Dern, who was a staff writer for the HBO series ROC" on Fox TV, and directs large-scale childrens theater productions in Los Angeles. I wanted to walk into the childrens section of a bookstore and find a book with a family that looks like mine," says Dunn-Dern, who is African American and happily married to a prominent Hollywood entertainment attorney who happens to be Caucasian. They have one daughter, now 12, and make their home in Los Angeles and Marthas Vineyard. I didnt find any, so I wrote one," she says cheerfully.

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow is the first in a series involving the same family plus additional characters. It is a large paperback, 8½" x 11", fully illustrated throughout with four-color pictures by artist Virgo Evans. Published by Llumina Press, Inc.
