Chevalier–Maurice & Me Premiers at Boston's Cutler Majestic Theatre

The life and music of France's Goodwill Ambassador to the World, Maurice Chevalier. Starring Tony Sandler and featuring Flemish accordianist, Ludo Marien.

(PRWEB) March 18, 2005 -- The world premier of the stage production Chevalier–Maurice and Me" starring Tony Sandler, will open at Bostons Cutler Majestic Theatre at Emerson College Tuesday, April 25, and run through Sunday, May 1. This is the first time a theatre production combining the life story and music of Maurice Chevalier has been presented on the stage.

The legendary life of Frances Goodwill Ambassador to the World," is a classic rags to riches story of a young street urchin, born in 1888, whos Belgian and French upbringing led him into the world of French music halls and, eventually, Hollywood.    Maurice Chevalier won the hearts of an entire generation through his love of singing and dancing through both World Wars and well into the 1960s when he was in his 80s. Chevalier is best known in the US for his roles in the Academy Award winning film, Gigi" (Thank Heaven for Little Girls") and scores of other films in the US and Europe (Can Can," Love in the Afternoon," Count Your Blessings,") His hits, Louise," Mimi" and You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me" were beloved by millions of people.

In addition to the music of Chevalier, the production also addresses the traumatic war years in which Chevalier was a prisoner of war as well as a controversial instrument of the Nazi government. Adored by fans worldwide, Maurice Chevaliers guiding principal throughout his life was to perform and for his music and joie de vivre to continue to inspire. A quintessential Frenchman, Chevalier was known for is straw boater, cheeky smile and distinctive French accent.

Sandler will be accompanied by a quintet including the Flemish accordianist, Ludo Marien, Belgiums leading accordian player who has worked with Luciano Pavarotti, Jose Carreras, Argentinian Mauricio Kagel and Viennese opera singer, Karin Pragmar. Mariens authentic sound of the French accordian is the perfect accompaniment to the music of Maurice Chevalier from french music halls favorites to the popular stage and screen classics, Mimi," The Last Time I Saw Paris," Louise," and April in Paris." Marien has appeared in concert in the Netherlands, France, England, Andorra, Germany, Poland, Italy, Australia, Russia, Spain, Norway, South Korea and Greece and is considered the leading accordianist in Europe. This appearance will be his debut in the U. S.

Tony Sandlers celebrated entertainment career spans more than 40 years including nineteen years with the world-famous singing duo, Sandler & Young" in which he partnered with Ralph Young. One of the hottest acts in show business, Sandler & Young (1964-1983) appeared on countless tv shows inlcuding the Ed Sullivan Show, the Tonight Show, Milton Berle, Dean Martin, Andy Williams, Red Skelton, Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin.
