Additional exhibitors include the Detroit Public Library, and the Detroit Recreation Department, which will provide information on recreational activities at each of the 27 centers. The fair is open to the parents and children of southeastern Michigan, however most programs are based in Detroit, Hamtramck, or Highland Park.
Randy McNeil, Executive Director of the Commission said, ÂThe Youth Sports and Recreation Commission is once again excited to host this yearÂs LetÂs Play Ball Registration Fair for families looking for quality, organized programs in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. Obesity has become a national issue that has severe implications for the cost of health care and for the quality of life in this country. Moreover, obesity is one of the most preventable problems when positive habits are developed early in life. Detroit has been labeled as one of AmericaÂs Âfattest cities. Children love to play. So why not use this love and build healthy habits at the same time. LetÂs Get Our Kids Active  LetÂs Play Ball.Â
Since 1995, the objective of the Youth Sports and Recreation Commission has been to coordinate, advocate and support quality after-school and recreational programs for children and youth in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. The Commission builds collaboration and cooperation among community based agencies, schools and faith based institutions, in order to achieve the goal of expanding and enhancing youth services during non-school hours.
