Musical Line Up Announced for 2nd Annual White Squirrel Festival

Top Regional Bands Booked for Two Day Art & Music Festival

Brevard, NC (PRWEB) March 21, 2005 -- From Blue Dogs to Steep Canyon Rangers, the musical line up is packed this year for Brevard, North Carolina's 2nd Annual White Squirrel Festival, Saturday and Sunday, May 28th - May 29th. Booking top regional and national talent was the job of Jupiter Coyote's John Felty, one of the event organizers, who will also be performing that weekend. "We've had a strong interest from a number of groups due to the popularity of last year's event and because a number of these individuals are from this area and want to give back". This year's music venue will fill both days of the event and will feature a covered stage and improved lighting and sound.

The event, centered around Brevard's most famous residents, began last year as a way to pay tribute to these unique animals and highlight Brevard's homespun heritage. "These are truly white squirrels, not albinos - we get asked that a lot" states Margaret Woodard, President of the Heart of Brevard. "They have been here since the 1950's, when legend has it, they escaped from a circus truck. "Visitors are really shocked when they see them running around the downtown and Brevard College campus." The college conducts a squirrel count each year and recently released a study that showed the white squirrel population at over 25% of Brevard's total squirrel count. (see http://www2.brevard.edu/whitesquirrel) The count is conducted by Professor Bob Glesener, director of the research program.

This year's theme will again be "Go Nuts!" and music fans should have plenty of reason to do so. The music and arts based festival is free of charge and in just one year has become the county's biggest event. This year's crowd is expected to run between 5,000 to 10,000 visitors. "We have closed off additional streets this year in anticipation of the increased crowd. Last year we exceeded 5,000 and the event was in its first year with just a couple of months planning" Woodard continued. The event did so well in its first outing it drew first place statewide as the "Best Downtown Special Event" by the North Carolina Main Street Center. Sponsorship packages for the event are still available through the Heart of Brevard and festival booth space is going fast according to Woodard. In addition, volunteers are needed to assist in a number of family friendly activities, including White Squirrel sightseeing tours.

The music schedule is set as follows:
