Best-Selling Author, Carl Weber's Urban Books Does it Again - Popular Novelist Introduces New Writer, Michelle Buckley, Author of Bulletproof Soul

During May, Creative Beginnings Month and Get Caught Reading Month, debut author Michelle Buckley wants to encourage others to set their artistic dreams and selves free! With heart attacks, depression and stress at an all-time high, and people slaving away at jobs that are destroying their souls and killing their spirits, this author says enough! Buckley, whose debut novel, Bulletproof Soul, comes out in May, says many people are unhappy and unhealthy because they have artistic dreams and aspirations that are going unfulfilled.

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) March 31, 2005 -- In May 2005, best-selling author, Carl Weber (The Preachers Son, Player Haters), will release through his publishing company, Urban Books, the debut novel of Kansas City, Missouri author Michelle Buckley.

The novel, Bulletproof Soul, celebrates the resiliency of women from the ghettos to the burbs by offering a real and fearless portrayal of friendship, family, career, lost love, lost minds, broken hearts and unbreakable spirits.

Bulletproof Soul is the story of Lacy Foxx, an entertainment reporter who embarks on a soul-searching journey of self-discovery. Along the way, she faces many challenges. This includes romance with a charismatic and not-quite-what-he-seems entrepreneur who volunteers with her at a local Youth Center. It also includes a contentious relationship with her ex-fiancé Sebastian Gamble, baby momma drama, a demanding job, and the deaths of people close to her. Additionally, Lacy has to deal with the embarrassment of having her never-before-married grandmother beat her down the aisle. Through it all, Lacy learns to nurture her indestructible spirit...her bulletproof soul...and in doing so, she learns some surprising things about herself and those she loves.

Says Buckley, Im humbled this day has arrived. Ive wanted to be an author since I was a kid. By choosing to finally write a book and follow a more creative life path, I feel like I'm being more authentic to who I really am. And Id like to encourage and nurture that in others. Hopefully people will see me as an example of what can happen when you pursue your creative dreams."

Bulletproof Soul was sold to Urban Books as part of a two-book deal, through author/agent, Donna Hill (In My Bedroom, Getting Hers). Working with Carl Weber and Donna Hill, two well-respected people in the African-American writing community has been a double blessing. And I hope readers support my book as they have. I really want Bulletproof Soul to strike a nerve. I believe we all have bulletproof souls . . . that indestructible place deep within that cant be destroyed, and we need to honor and celebrate that. By telling this story, I wanted to pay homage to all the strong women I know, who despite everything theyve gone through, have managed to survive," says Buckley.

Adds Weber, When I first read Michelle's manuscript, I liked her voice and style of writing. Plus, I recognized this was just good storytelling and I knew I had to sign her. Bulletproof Soul will hopefully jumpstart a great writing career. If given a chance, readers will be pleasantly surprised by what Michelle has to offer as a writer."

Distributed by Kensington Publishing, Bulletproof Soul is available beginning in May 2005 as a trade paperback in most bookstores and online. To learn more, visit www.michellebuckley.com.

Excerpt from Bulletproof Soul
The fear I felt was a lot like a gallstone that wouldnt pass. In the pit of my stomach lay the fear of the unknown, the unseen, the uncertain. It was a fear that no amount of bile, antacid, stomach acid, laxatives or natural waste elimination could eradicate from my system.

But I knew that asking him to quit his job was not an option. I knew he wouldnt. I knew the job was about more than just money for him. While he was a young child, an uncle that he adored died in a fire. It was the result of an explosion at the manufacturing plant he had worked at for years. Sebastian wasnt on hand to save his favorite uncle, so instead he made a commitment to save the world, one fire at a time.

He was a man with a mission, a purpose. He was living his boyhood dream. In his eyes, hed grown up to be a superhero like the Green Lantern, Batman, Spider-Man, Superman and Captain America before him. The only difference was he didnt have superpowers. He was just a man. He was just a man with a big, warm, caring heart that saved scores of lives everyday, often at the expense of his own. He was just a man who wouldnt have it any other way.
