Penn Media’s video portal, EVTV1.com, announced a major license agreement for content today by securing access to over 25,000 hours of historical footage. The content will be streamed at EVTV1.com once the site comes out of beta in the second quarter.

The footage dates from 1896 to present and includes vintage film from WW I, President FDR's address to Congress after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the early days of Pope John Paul II, 1950s Marine Testimony on UFOs, all the way up through the recent Tsunami disaster.

Penn Media President Jaffer Ali stated, “We believe content is king. The 20th Century was the first century captured on film, and making the best video moments available through the 21st Century platform of the Internet is exciting. The historical clips will be available for free at our EVTV1 video portal because of our belief that quality content attracts advertisers who will want to roll their commercials before the content plays.”

EVTV1’s goal is to offer a single place where people can come to view a wide spectrum of video content from historical events to comedy clips. EVTV1 will have something for everyone and give the viewer maximum choices.

The clips on EVTV1 are conveniently arranged for viewing by channels of interest: Humor & Entertainment, News, History, Music/Dance, Bizarre, Politics, Science Fiction, Animals/Nature, Religion/Spirituality and Sports. Ali continued,

“If streaming media is going to be viable, you simply cannot roll a video commercial on a website, call it rich media and think everything is great. We believe that capturing attention by having the viewer self select content that interests them will deliver the most powerful impression. You have the viewer’s total attention at that point and they will accept a :15 or :30 commercial without resentment. Too much of online advertising has created a consumer backlash. Pre-rolling video on websites, pop unders, and images flying across one’s screen irritate consumers. Introducing video content that the viewer initiates with a commercial is not like that at all.”

The problem, until now, has been that there was not enough good content that people wanted to see. We have solved this problem in the marketplace.”
