Playing with a cast of virtuosos, Mythology is a combination of styles - rock, prog and metal with splashes of jazz. As the composer, Sherinian left a lot of room for the guest artists to feel natural in playing. So much so that Zakk Wylde was inspired by the flow of the music that he wrote lyrics for the track The River Run and also performed the vocals.

Much of the album was recorded at Sherinians own Beachwood Manor Studios in Burbank, CA.
