Launch of First UK Podcast for Small Businesses

Small businesses in the UK now have a new voice, thanks to the latest concept in on-demand broadcasting – the podcast.

(PRWEB) April 6, 2005 -- SmallBizPod has been launched as the first UK podcast dedicated to small businesses, start-ups, entrepreneurs and anyone looking to invest in a new enterprise.

Broadcast weekly via the internet, SmallBizPod features small business news, discussion, interviews and practical tips. The first three episodes of the show, which are already available from http://www.smallbizpod.co.uk, include interviews and advice on topics as varied as franchising, blogging, US enterprise culture, UK reaction to red tape reform and speednetworking.

Each week, the show will also include an interview with a small business owner or entrepreneur highlighting their experiences in order to provide inspiration and practical advice for start-ups or existing businesses.

Alex Bellinger, founder of SmallBizPod, comments: Podcasting is a relatively new concept in the UK, although it is well-established in the US. It is the ideal format for hard-pressed small business owners with busy schedules, because it allows them to download a show automatically to their mp3 players or computers and listen to it whenever they have time."

Podcast listeners can use software known as feed aggregators, like iPodder, Doppler Radio or Feed Demon, to download a new show as soon as it becomes available. This is achieved by subscribing free to an RSS (really simple syndication) feed. In addition, podcasting makes the broadcast of much more niche or specialist material a realistic option which means audiences that have not previously been catered for by traditional broadcast media, are able to listen to content that they know is going to be relevant.

Podcasting, like blogging, opens up a very different way of communicating with niche audiences. Anyone can do it, and many will try. Inevitably, like everything on the internet, therell be good, bad and ugly podcasts, but the best will rise to the top and I believe their quality will challenge mainstream broadcast media.

Its early days for SmallBizPod and its certainly no Today Programme (the BBC's flagship radio news programme), but over time I hope that it will become a valuable resource for small and medium-sized businesses across the UK and beyond." concludes Alex Bellinger.

More information on SmallBizPod can be found at http://www.smallbizpod.co.uk. Businesses that would like to be considered for an interview on the show should email business@smallbizpod.co.uk.
