Sherman Commercial Services Relocates to the California Central Valley

Commercial interiors company takes a holistic approach to facilities management.

Fresno, CA (PRWEB) April 7, 2005 -- Sherman Commercial Services (SCS), recently relocated from the San Francisco Bay Area, bringing a unique set of facilities management services to the California Central Valley. With more than 25 years of commercial interiors experience, they show business leaders how taking a holistic approach to workplace management can result in additional support for their business goals and ultimately have a positive impact on their bottom line.

Although items like rent, fresh paint, new carpet, artwork, janitorial services and furniture purchases are considered little more than expenses to most business leaders, SCS understands the major impact of the workplace on worker behavior, productivity and performance.

When it comes to productivity, business leaders are often under the misconception that their workers are all operating at peak efficiency. A recent Gallup poll shows the reality of disengagement or presenteeism (physically showing up but mentally just pretending)--the shocking results illustrate that 19% of workers surveyed are actively disengaged and another 55% are passively disengaged. Actively disengaged means that an employee is motivated to slow business down and deliberately undermine their employers efforts. Passively disengaged means that the worker is doing the minimum amount necessary to keep from getting fired. In other words, 74% of the workforce is not anywhere near 100% productive. In fact, lost productivity due to presenteeism is, on average, 10 times more than the productivity lost to absenteeism.

Disengagement results from many factors, and the workplace plays a significant role. According to SCS, most companies spend about $1 on facilities-related items for every $10-15 spent on employee salaries and benefits. SCS Owner Jeanette Sherman explained, It just makes sense to scrutinize how youre spending that $1 and the effect your choices are having on workers. A decision to cut your facility budget or delay furniture or equipment purchases could further impede productivity and further devalue your employee investment. You would be better served by making strategically planned changes in your workplace designed to increase employee engagement and productivity. Considering the 1:15 facility to employee cost ratio, you could double your facilities budget and the resulting productivity improvement would not only offset that additional expense, you would wind up netting a profit."

An initial consultation and workplace analysis is provided by SCS at no charge. The SCS holistic approach to the workplace represents their leave no stone unturned" philosophy towards improving profitability for their clients. It may include review and analysis of the following items: interior architecture and design, technology, Feng Shui, signage, acoustics, plants, artwork, lighting, temperature, paper management, employee interviews, ergonomics, space utilization & energy, overall condition of facility, furnishings & finishes, building location and condition, marketing/branding materials, web presence, reputation, media coverage, TQM/Six Sigma programs, etc. Prior to any workplace changes, SCS works with the client to gather baseline data for later comparison and measurement of any resulting changes.
