Biblio.com Announces OCLC Linking for Libraries

Biblio.com, one of the world's largest suppliers of used, rare, and out-of-print books announced today a joint link between Biblio.com and the OCLC WorldCat database. Biblio.com will now provide access to millions of additional book titles in WorldCat through the OCLC FirstSearch online reference service.

(PRWEB) April 13, 2005 -- Libraries and their patrons can identify out-of-print, hard-to-find, used and rare books in WorldCat, the world's largest database of items held in libraries. From there, they can link to Biblio.com to purchase the items, as long as the library has enabled the optional link in the FirstSearch administrative module.

Additionally, when a book is not currently available on Biblio.com, customers will be linked to library holdings in WorldCat through the Open WorldCat program, which makes records of library-owned materials in WorldCat available to Web searchers in an effort to make libraries and their holdings more visible on the Web.

The WorldCat database that OCLC provides is an invaluable resource for the public, and reinforces our emphasis on the importance of libraries in our communities," said Brendan Sherar, CEO of Biblio.com. And by providing OCLC with access to the entire Biblio.com database of books, we extend an additional resource to libraries in locating hard-to-find books for their patrons. There is a natural synergy here that makes OCLC and Biblio.com a perfect fit."

OCLC
Online Computer Library Center
Founded in 1967, OCLC Online Computer Library Center Inc. is a nonprofit, membership, computer library service and research organization dedicated to furthering access to the world's information and reducing information costs. More than 53,000 libraries in 96 countries and territories around the world use OCLC services to locate, acquire, catalog, lend and preserve library materials.

Researchers, students, faculty, scholars, professional librarians and other information seekers use OCLC services to obtain bibliographic, abstract and full-text information when and where they need it.

OCLC and its member libraries cooperatively built and maintain WorldCat.

Biblio.com
Biblio.com is now one of the leading sources for used, rare, out-of-print, and hard-to-find books in the world. With the launch of their online services in February 2003, Biblio.com entered a market dominated by several major companies, as well as more than a dozen smaller competitors.

With substantial growth in the last 2 years, Biblio.com has gone from a fledgling company to becoming the third largest site of its kind in the world. Biblio.com currently offers more than 16 million titles from 2500 independent booksellers in 24 countries.
