Cruise Network Suspends Sales of all Royal Caribbean Cruises aboard the Jewel of the Seas as the Result of Bed Bug Infestation

A Florida couple is recovering at home now after their cruise vacation aboard Royal Caribbean Jewel of the Seas was cut short by a severe infestation of bed bugs" in their stateroom. As a result, Cruise Network has decided to temporarily suspend sales of all cruise vacations scheduled aboard the Jewel of the Seas until further notice.
We really wanted a dream vacation, and instead I am taking nitro pills for pains.

(PRWEB) April 13, 2005 -- A Florida couple is at home recovering now after what they have described as the worst vacation experience they have ever had. Alan and Nathalie Wasserstorm returned Sunday from what was supposed to be a dream Caribbean cruise vacation aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Jewel of the Seas. That vacation came to a very unpleasant end when the couple had to be medically treated after receiving hundreds of bed bug bites while they were sleeping in their Jewel of the Seas cabin.

As a result of this unacceptable occurrence, Cruise Network.com has decided at this time to suspend all sales of cruise vacations scheduled aboard the Jewel of the Seas until an adequate statement is released by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines detailing to their customers and to the industry exactly how this happened and what is going to be done about it. As a large national account holder with Royal Caribbean, Cruise Network is committed to making certain that all clients are 100% satisfied with the product they are receiving.

Sometimes you just have to stop thinking about profits and concentrate on what is really most important, the people," said President/CEO of Cruise Network Jai George. Our clients are our business, and we will do whatever it takes to ensure their complete happiness, satisfaction, and most of all safety."

Upon discovery of the infestation, Royal Caribbean moved the couple to another stateroom aboard the ship and offered to refund the cost of their tickets, but according to Mr. Wasserstorm, that was just too little too late. As he described to WKMG-TV in Orlando on Monday, "We really wanted a dream vacation, and instead I am taking nitro pills for pains."

Royal Caribbean has since apologized to the couple, but has refused to reimburse them for all of the medical expenses they have incurred. The couple has said that this will definitely be the last cruise vacation they will ever take.

Cimex lectularius, more commonly known as the bed bug," is a small parasite that essentially feeds off the flesh of humans and other warm-blooded animals including dogs, birds, and other rodents. Caused by a number of factors that can include substandard cleanliness or poor housekeeping, bed bugs are most commonly spread via clothing, bedding, and furniture.

Bed bugs are most frequently found in dwellings with a high rate of occupant turnover, such as motels, dormitories, shelters, and prisons. Bed bugs are nocturnal by nature, sleeping during the day and feeding at night. Their bite is initially painless, and is usually not noticed until the skin begins to become severely irritated and inflamed. These bites are usually very easily treated, and are not life threatening.

Cruise Network will maintain its no sale" policy for all future Jewel of the Seas sailings until Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines chooses to make public a more satisfactory explanation regarding this unfortunate occurrence.
