Backbone: A Series of 21 Works of Photography and Paint on Canvas Portraying the Backs of Women

Exhibit Opening May 5th, 2005. A new photography and paint series, "Backbone", by American Artist Michelle Firment Reid. "Even though her back is turned, she is aware of all around her...though appearing at times vulnerable, she is capable of carrying the weight of life's offerings...she has backbone".

(PRWEB) April 20, 2005 -- Backbone: A series of 21 works of photography and paint on canvas by American Artist Michelle Firment Reid

Artist Statement:
I have always felt a certain intimacy when viewing art showing the nude back of a woman; intimate, seductive, and even vulnerable. As women we are always paying attention to our fronts; our faces and breasts. We often save our back as the last to look at on the way out the door, if we even look at all. Yet a womans back can be very sensuous to the touch, caressed in intimate moments. When viewing the back of a woman, there is also mystery and intrigue, especially when the face is hidden from full view or turned slightly inward. There also seems to be a vulnerability here, her back is turned. Who has the power here, the viewer or her?

Even though her back is turned, she is aware of all around her...though appearing at times vulnerable, she is capable of carrying the weight of life's offerings...she has backbone
She does of course. Even though her back is turned, she is aware of all around her. She has a firmness of character, and often is the main support of her world, however large or small her world may be. She is often carrying the load. She is not afraid of showing her vulnerabilities, because through her vulnerabilities and hardships she has gained knowledge and strength of character. Though appearing at times vulnerable, she is capable of carrying the weight of lifes offerings.

She has backbone.
