AffiliateTracking.com Addresses Jupiter Cookie Deletion Study with Cookieless Tracking Capability and Their Own Test

Affiliatetracking.com, an affiliate software standard since 1998, reintroduces its cookieless tracking feature in light of a recent study released by Jupiter research that states as many as 39% of internet users perform a deletion of cookies on a monthly basis.

Rogersville, TN (PRWEB) April 20, 2005 -- Affiliatetracking.com, an affiliate software standard since 1998, reintroduces its cookieless tracking feature in light of a recent study released by Jupiter research that states as many as 39% of internet users perform a deletion of cookies on a monthly basis.

Since the beginning the Internet has been reliant upon a small text file called a cookie to transmit data about a users' interaction with sites and applications. Generally a cookie contains the web address a user visited and other items of data such as the user's IP address or a referring affiliate id. Rarely are sensitive, privacy breaching details passed via a cookie. The intent of using the cookie is to enhance a user's online experience. It can prevent the user from having to log into each site they regularly visit, show them content they prefer to see and filter out what they do not wish to see. In the end, a cookie is not a bad thing.

However, Jupiter's findings have created some widespread panic and a fair amount of media coverage due to the online advertising industry's reliance on the cookie for tracking the effectiveness of their campaigns. While there are those who support the cookie deletion study (Neilsen NetRatings Supports Jupiter Study) and others who challenge its results (The Sky Isn't Falling on Cookies), Craig Belcher, CEO for AffiliateTracking.com, stated, "We've been in the affiliate industry for 7 years, having had the ability throughout the years to track in a cookieless format. In that time, a very small number of clients have requested this capability, and I've not seen that number increase to date. We do plan to initiate internal tests in an effort to provide our current and potential clients with solid information on how these findings affect our solution."

Those interested in participating in or obtaining a copy of the results of the test, are asked to transmit their preference via the cookie test submission form. More information on the cookieless tracking capabilities of AffiliateTracking.coms affiliate program software can be obtained by visiting www.affiliatetracking.com.
