Wood County Electric Cooperative Expanding SmartPower

Wood County Electric Cooperative is expanding their prepaid energy solution.

Quitman, TX (PRWEB) April 23, 2005 -- Date…Pre-pay energy solutions are the wave of the future: such is the realization reached by Wood County Electric Cooperative, located in Quitman, Texas. Wood County Electric Cooperative piloted a pre-pay metering solution to its customers in the third quarter of 2004 with the plan to distribute 500 meter packages. The pre-pay electricity program called SmartPower, offers customers an innovative billing convenience that provides customers with a way to manage their energy consumption and pay for it the way that they determine is best for them. Apparently, pre-pay was warmly and widely accepted: Wood County Electric Cooperative recently expanded the program by committing to an additional 2500 meters.

Wood County Electric Cooperative teamed with Widefield, an energy solution provider based out of Scottsdale, Arizona, for both phases of its pre-pay design and distribution. Widefields state of the art technology and software can be easily adapted to the specifications and needs of any utility. Consideration of these special needs is tantamount for a rural cooperative, serving approximately 30,000 members in an area that spans nearly 250 miles. Widefield was able to meet these special needs, as well as those of other Touchstone cooperatives including La Plata Electric Association, Inc. in Durango, Colorado. The advantages of pre-pay for their residential customers: seeing for themselves the cost efficacy and profitability of the program, while their customers appreciate their ability to control their consumption and payment options.
