4,000 Jobs at the Inland Empire Diversity Career and Job Fair
A tight labor market and a desire to recruit diverse employees draw employers to recruit at the Inland Empire Diversity Career & Job Fair.
San Bernardino, CA (PRWEB) April 23, 2005 -- Riverside County has over 951 positions available for immediate hire. That is why we are recruiting at the Inland Empire Diversity Career and Job Fair," said Debra Freeman from Riverside Countys personnel department.
While 4,000 jobs in one-place sounds like a lot, Carl Dameron, president of Dameron Communications and event promoter says he has the jobs committed.
Our initial goal was 2,000 jobs, but the need is so great we have17 companies recruiting to fill more than 4,000 positions," said Dameron.
An additional 15 companies have given us verbal confirmation that they will attend. In addition over 30 companies have expressed interest in recruiting with us. That gives us 30 to 60 recruiting companies. I believe we may be able to hit 6,000 jobs this year!" he said.
Confirmed companies include: The County of San Bernardino, The County of Riverside, Community Hospital of San Bernardino, Starwood Vacation Ownership, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, University of Phoenix, San Bernardino County Sheriff, Riverside County Sheriff, 909Models.com, California Conservation Corps, The Peace CORPS, Arrowhead Credit Union, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, California State University in San Bernardino, Nestle, California Baptist University and Kaiser Permanente.
The Inland Empire Diversity Career & Job Fair was created to reach Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, women, veterans, disabled, and people older than 40, but all job seekers are welcome and encouraged to attend. The price of admission is a can of food that will be distributed to the needy.
Companies like the Inland Empire Diversity Career & Job Fair because they get a big turn out of potential employees. The people like it because they get a large number of companies, with lots of openings, committed to recruiting diverse employees," said Dameron.
Companies recruit for all positions from entry-level positions to advanced placements. Arrowhead Regional Medical Clinic is looking for doctors, and nurses as well as custodial positions.
The County of Riverside also has a lot of different career fields. With 19,000 employees, we have almost every kind of job you can think of from part-time pay to $100,000 a year," said Freeman.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car started recruiting at the Inland Empire Diversity Career & Job Fair during the first event in 1994.
"I've hired a number of people as a direct result of the Job Fair," said Pam Webster, human resources manager for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Southern California. "We're pretty particular about who we hire and because the Diversity Job Fair attracts so many qualified people, we do very well."
Webster says she attends the Job Fair in search of candidates for Enterprise's sales manager trainee positions. Enterprise Rent-A-Car is looking to fill 1,000 positions.
"Between the colleges and other organizations, I attend between 10-15 job fairs each year," Webster said. "And I've been to fairs that were lucky if they were pulling in 200 people. This Job Fair does an excellent job of getting the word out that hiring companies will be there."
The word gets out through radio, newspapers, TV, posters, postcards and flyers," says Dameron. We also make sure the community based organizations from churches to Chambers to the NAACP to MOPA know about the event and share that knowledge with their members," said Dameron.
Some people say the best advertising is word-of-mouth. Bob Ridzak at 99.1 calls radio the biggest mouth in the county" said Dameron. Add the power of print to radio and TV and thousands of people hear about the Diversity Job Fair, they tell others and create more word of mouth," said Dameron. The secret to a big turn out is advertising!" he added.
