Michigan Author Writes Lumberjack Book
Brenda M Weber, lifetime resident of Manistique in Michigan's Upper Peninsula writes John Horn-Legend of a Lumberjack
(PRWEB) April 30, 2005 -- Published by Publish America, John Horn-Legend of a Lumberjack is a historical/romance/adventure and should appeal to a wide variety of readers in the Upper Peninsula. Based on the actual finding of a lumberjack's grave by some of Weber's family members in the 1960's, Weber has woven a tale of adventure, suspense, action and romance.
Most of the story is set in the late 1800's during the booming days of the logging industry in the Upper Peninsula. Weber mixes some modern day twists to the tale which makes this a captivating read for some eerie surprises. While towns and some businesses are actually named, the events are purely the imagination of the author. Some personal names of locals were used with permission.
Weber sticks with her "signature" black and white cover design, again taking the photograph herself. Samantha Mitchell graces the cover which Weber shot at the Big Springs, Kitchitikipi early last year.
Weber offers this synopsis of John Horn-Legend of a Lumberjack:
"Deep in the forest along Lake Michigan's Manistique River, a simple wooden grave marker reads, "John Horn - 1897." Why is it there? Who was John Horn? More than 100 years ago, Manistique was a booming lumber town owned by the Chicago Lumbering Company. Thousands of immigrants worked there, some living in company homes, some in the logging camps. Steamers docked daily at the busy Manistique Harbor, met by a local Indian chief, Ossawinamakee. Into this town came John Horn.
Step back in time to the late 1800's where you will meet John Horn and the woman he loves, Lily, the preacher's daughter, the girl with the moon in her eyes. You'll also meet Moonwater, John's sister and owner of Ravenwood, a boarding house shunned by the townspeople. Meet their nemesis, a fur trader with a mangle hand and a surprising identity. Come take a walk through the streets of a logging town and the deep Michigan forests where you will meet Bittenear, and where you will want to visit time and again. This is one adventurous historical love story you will not want to miss."
John Horn is a 180-page paperback which will sell for $19.95 in bookstores. It can be ordered directly through Publish America at a slight discount. Online at www.publishamerica.com (search books for John Horn). It will be available in about 3-4 months online at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
Weber's first book, I Promise Not to Tell, published in 2003 is also available through Publish America, various bookstores and online.
